My point is, The Warp/Chaos is merely 'all your bad days at once' for Star Trek, rather than a true Outside Context Problem like it would be for most Sci Fi. They have beings who normally drive you mad just by looking them (The Medusans, who are basically friendly warp demons), but they devised a filter to let you look at them safely. Anomaly of the week (ESPECIALLY Chaotic Space from The Fight, which is basically what a slightly calmer Warp might be), eldritch entities possessing the ship are common enough that they have a standard procedure ('Computer, compute PI to the last decimal place') and THEN start improvising new defenses if the front-line defense doesn't work, rather than switching to improvisation right from the get-go. Star Trek technology very much has demonstrated that it is useful against threats that are very, very similar to Chaos.

Chaos is countered all the time with technology: simple force of arms, Gellar fields, and Necron Pylons are all technological methods that counter Chaos, albeit with varying degrees of success.Д®ven if Chaos could not be countered in-universe via technology, Star Trek technology is Star Trek technology not 40k technology and thus plays by slightly different rules. This is false, even within the 40k universe. It would be like Event Horizon on every star trek ship. Assume that every ship the Star Trek universe has would be assaulted from every direction at the exact same time because warp rifts would open all around them. So chaos rift opens up, sucks in the black hole, then out pops a waaaagh, hive fleet, and.oh, whatever else 40k can throw at them. UTTER FREAKING PEACE AND UNITY IN 40K!!!!! Then with all that resolved some punks pop up in sector 5a8-su88 and blast up a star making a black hole or something. The webway, warp, and everything open and regulated with freaking stoplights and crosswalks for grots and gaunts to cross while holding hands. Nurgle, the god of pestilence and decay, returns Isha, the god of life to the eldar, after he stole her from Slaanesh, who kidnapped her. Ancient 10 million year old foes that literally fought, imprisoned and enslaved gods are now having slumber parties and exchanging secrets. They are all crazy super enemies, and that is over in round 4. So consider that the only reason no race in 40k has ever really progressed is because they are all in constant draft mode (maybe not tau, we don't know very much about them) super war time. There is supposedly a map of a galaxy in 40k, and when they turn off a star, that star dies IN REALITY. Time itself could become a physical string of yarn that a blanket of reality is being woven out of in some fortress somewhere, because that is how crazy relics and artifacts in 40k can work. Tzeentch, Big E and Eldrad have tea together. Who the hell knows what would happen if when the Necrons and Eldar share tech. Never allow 40k to be united!!!! That should be on the freaking side bar! You can't beat it without grade S hax! Hell, even then you might not be able to. This thread is my go to reference for a 'anything vs 40k' whenever someone allows 40k to be united. This thread: happens to go over many of the arguments as to why, but basically it boils down to 'Voyager's shields held off a realm of constantly shifting physics even without modification, Trek has ways to reverse mutations that turn you into a lizard, and they have a rather bizzare arsenal of sedatives and stimulants.'Д®nd result if all goes well: the alpha quadrant powers become the exporters of some of the best anti-warp tech the galaxy has ever seen. They also have a techbase which is surprisingly well suited for dealing with the BS that the warp spits out, even without OP fiat. As long as they are in a relatively welcoming part of the galaxy, they won't be immediately swept up into a fight, which gives them time to compare and contrast their own technology with that of the locals. Somewhat fortunately for Star Trek, they tend not to pick fights, with the exception of the klingons, preferring diplomacy instead. Against WH 40k united, they're totally screwed as all unsheilded infrastructure is promptly consumed by a warpstorm, and the survivors are picked off one by one. Honestly, in a straight-up fight, none of the conventional forces of Star Trek can't really do much here, unless they go full-on bloodlusted and start blowing up stars left and right.
